PreK Summer Homework

Our school added PreK this year. Our PreK students have always gone to a different campus. It was great having this on our campus. We were able to have discussions with the teacher about what skills they should have prior to entering Kindergarten. 

We offered to create a summer homework packet to send home with her kids so they could keep their brains chugging away this summer. It is a mixture of literacy and math concepts. It's probably a little late for you, or your PreK teachers, to utilize this summer, but we wanted to share while it was fresh on our minds. Below is a sample of the different concepts offered.

Try It Tuesday #1

Summer is one of the best times as a teacher to get some great freebies. We were so MIA last school year that we wanted to share some of our favorites with you this summer. We are going to try to upload a freebie sample of some of our most favorite products. This will give you a sneak peek and see if it is something you could use in your classroom.

The first freebie comes from our Science Sorts Unit 1 packet. This freebie sort includes Science Tools or not color pictures, blackline pictures for journals (in 2 different sizes) and a reader to go along with the topic. The picture above will allow you to download this sample of our Unit 1.

Racing to Read Freebie

This is a fun activity that helps the student practices automaticity of some of our basic concepts. Here is how it works:

1.Give each student a copy and assign a partner.

2.Create a set time and partner #1 will read each item, in order, as fast as possible in the given time.

3.Partner #2 will check and help when needed.

4.When time is up partner #1 will color the box of the last item read.

5.Repeat with partner #2 and their worksheet.

6.Can be completed as often as you like. Goal is to get all students to read entire page as fast as possible. Times depend on you and your class.

Pages included are upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers to 20, numbers to 100, sight words, CVC words.

Literacy & Calendar Journals Updated

Have you purchased our Literacy and Calendar Journals? If so, you will want to go and download the updated versions. We have them listed by month, by season and just added all 10 months in one bundle.

We updated almost all of the Calendar Journals. Many states are no longer required to teach patterns in Kindergarten. We added an additional Calendar Journal for each month that has patterns to reflect this new standard. Now you have the choice to review/teach patterns or not.

Standards have changed since we created these journals so most months have different math concepts than what you previously downloaded.

Most of the Literacy Journals are the same. The only changes we made were to clip art. All concepts are the same.

We were finally able to bundle the entire year set thanks to TpT increasing the file size limit. So, if you haven't bought them yet then now is the time. Any of the images above will take you to our store.

A Must Have

I know this is old news, but I couldn't help but blog about GoNoodle! I jumped on the bandwagon back in the winter and fell in love. I've always taken brain breaks and showed various educational YouTube videos. This website does that and a whole lot more. What I love is that they are constantly adding more videos. Your adventure starts out with naming your class and picking a Champ. Champ is what I would call a mascot. Now, on to the fun stuff. Here are some of my favorites:

 Airtime is what I use prior to writing time. It is a bubble that floats across the United States. You can input your zip code so it starts where you live. The bubble floats, along with soothing music, and lands 1:30 later in another destination. It plots it on the map and tells you 3 random facts about that location. We don't study geography, outside of Texas, in our classes, but there is nothing wrong with a short introduction to different cities and states.

Kids can get in some exercise with the Olympic type events or even Zumba. These are nice because the kids are expected to do certain things or movements. With the sports events you have control over whether they win or lose based on their participation.

Who doesn't love some current videos? They are so into Frozen and Happy right now. Ok, so I'm the one that loves Happy!

Koo Koo Kanga Roo is a group I wasn't familiar with until GoNoodle but the kids love them! Silly but fun!

 

 Now these are some examples of really silly videos that makes us all giggle. They are so random that we love them! Ice Cream and Guacamole is a favorite!

There are lots more videos! Many we have always used in our classroom-any educational and many that are not. Once you finish your level, your Champ gets an upgrade and he gets bigger, grows muscles, adds arms/legs. The kids all scream when the Champ changes. After 5 levels you get to pick a new Champ.
